Is your auto gearbox slow at changing gear? Juddering, hunting between gears or over revving? Then your auto box could benefit from an ATF mega flush and fluid change. As with any hardworking oil, the gearbox fluid in gearboxes can get hot and generally worn out. Common signs are torque converter judder, slow and erratic gear changes and what feels like clutch slip as the engine revs but the speed does not increase. Smithfield Motors have a state of the art Launch ATF Flush Machine which flushes the oil system of automatic gearboxes and changes the old, worn out ATF in a simple and effective way. We use a flush additive to remove, varnish and clean internal components. The old fluid is then removed and replaced simultaneously with the vehicle's specification fluid. We also add a conditioner to the new ATF fluid which helps to maintain the fluid, gearbox and seals in a good condition. It is very common for the gearboxes to start showing problems from around 80,000 miles. In most cases, an ATF flush will eliminate these problems. Many owners are choosing to have this ATF fluid service done at lower mileages as a preventative measure, rather than waiting until they start to get problems.

Electric cars have finally come of age. The best offer virtually all the functionality and practicality of traditional petrol or diesel cars, while creating zero exhaust emissions and the potential for very low day-to-day running costs.

With state of the art technology we are now able to offer the servicing of full electric vehicles.

What's included as part of an electric service?

Most of the mechanical aspects of car servicing remain the same for electric vehicles. However, there are a few additional checks that are required as part of comprehensive hybrid car servicing, as displayed in the table below:

  • Connect diagnostic for hybrid health check (report live data)
  • Check condition of charging point and charging cable
  • Visually check high voltage cables and connectors for damage
  • Report if inverter coolant is due
  • Rotate road wheels to check for brake binding

How often should I service my electric vehicle?

In the majority of cases, electric cars should be serviced at the same intervals as you would a regular car. We recommend checking your owner's manual for more accurate details relating to your vehicle.

If you recently bought a motorbike or have owned a bike for some time, you should have it serviced. By servicing your bike, you can ensure that it is in excellent condition and safe to ride. Servicing your motorbike regularly will not only prolong its lifetime, but it’ll also allow you to get the best performance from it. So, are you wondering about how often should you service a motorbike? The truth is, it varies from bike to bike since there are many models of motorcycles in the market. Therefore, pinpointing one exact time for servicing motorbikes isn’t particularly helpful. The best place to start is your service book/manual however, give us a call and we'll be happy to discuss.

Hybrid vehicles have different servicing requirements to standard petrol and diesel cars, but at Smithfield Motors we use the latest diagnostic technology to get on top of any issues so you can drive away with confidence.

What is hybrid technology?

Hybrid cars use a conventional combustion engine and an electric motor powered by a battery. A hybrid may use regenerative braking to power the battery or require plugging in to recharge. Plug ins can generally travel for further distances on battery power alone, making them extremely economical and reducing your emissions.

Hybrids are ideal for town driving where you can run on electric power for incredibly low running costs. The most popular hybrids currently on the market include the Toyota Prius and Yaris, the Volvo XC90 and the Kia Niro. Whatever hybrid you own, we can deliver the best servicing package for your car.

Regular servicing for my hybrid car

Although your vehicle may benefit from the latest hybrid technology, it still makes sense to keep it regularly serviced. This ensures that your hybrid is running smoothly and can detect any niggling issues before they become big problems. The technicians working on your hybrid will run electrical and mechanical checks that help to extend the lifespan of your car and ensure that it is operating at maximum efficiency.

If your hybrid is under warranty then you’ll be expected to adhere to the servicing schedule or risk your cover. A full service history can also significantly increase the resale value of your hybrid vehicle.

As technology has advanced and car components have become computerised, identifying problems is no longer a time-consuming and expensive task thanks to the engine diagnostic test. Our diagnostic tools not only reveal problems with major components – including the transmission, oil tank, exhaust system, and brakes – but they also identify performance issues in things like the fuel infector, air flow, and coolant.

During the test the code reader will notify our technicians of any fault codes so that they can know which component’s parameters are off or out of range. However, it will not be able to give details of the exact cause of the issue. This is where our technicians will apply their years of experience, knowledge, and expertise to diagnose the underlying problem.
